The popular Twitter account @thetweetofgod, run by comedy writer David Javerbaum, appeared to have been hacked Wednesday night.
A barrage of tweets, including “God is a myth!” and many unpublishable vulgarities, were posted minute after minute on the platform.
The Chronicle has reached out to Twitter for comment.
The Twitter account was created in October 2010 and boasts 6.2 million followers.
The isn’t the first time this year that Twitter has dealt with a high-profile hacking. In July, a Bitcoin scam in which several notable accounts were hacked prompted Twitter to lock and suspend the activity of “verified” users.
Following the incident, Twitter implemented new protocols to prevent future cyberattacks, such as more detailed background checks on employees with access to user information and additional cybersecurity training.

Deleted: A spammer selling fake credentials, someone with conspiracy theories out the wazoo and two ways of spelling their username, a butthurt chap kicked out of another site, and a drift of strays. Not enough. I'm killing my profile.
