Great minds of the past help us learn from history | OpinionAs I begin this first article of the new year, I quote Congressman Alcee Hastings, who often begins a speech by intoning, “If I offend anyone, I assure you it was purely intentional.” Another hero of mine, the brilliant essayist and outspoken atheist, Christopher Hitchens, observed that many people use the words “I am offended” as an argument, as if being offended means that the other person must be wrong. Let us make a resolution this year to get over ourselves and stop being so offended by opinions that differ from our own. ************************************************************************************************************* A good point. There are far too many websites and forums run like military dictatorships with no allowance for differences in thinking. Owned by weak little snowflakes who cannot counter anyone disagreeing with them. Atheists in particular have a wide range of beliefs and any admin who thinks he speaks for all atheists is fucking delusional. Yes I'm thinking of the fuckwits over at australian-atheists.net/forums
