As far as I know I was the openly openly atheist kid at my school. Was ruthlessly bullied by teachers for daring to question the curriculum taught in the religious class each week but didn't really care. In fact it made me more stubborn. No way was I going to support a bunch of fairy tales I had no belief in. I certainly wasn't going to lie and pretend either. Seemed hypocritical on their part to expect I would cave in like that since they kept saying lying was a sin. I recall having the epiphany one day that if Santa wasn't real then God was even less plausible. It was like a huge weight off my shoulders. All those stories of burning hell revealed themselves as hollow threats. Unfortunately I seemed to be the only one who had figured it out so for years I put up being treated as an idiot or child of the devil by everyone. Luckily my parents weren't overly devout or even practicing Christians. They called themselves such but found church boring so that was one nightmare I didn't have to put up with. Welcome to the group if you've stumbled in. I bought AustralianAtheists.Org years ago and figured it was time I put it to use. Being new to ProBoards it might take me awhile to finish off this board. Have to figure out banner installation and the like, find members and post some stuff. Hope you decide to join and contribute.

Sounds to me that you are trying to relive your childhood fantasy and put this together as some form of a 5 yr old approach of getting things of your chest and moved on.

Hi anonymous user.
Its true that you never really get over bullying and I've harboured a chip on my shoulder in regard to religion ever since. I'm sure I'm not alone in that way but this group is open to everyone. I prefer a mixed crowd. Makes debates more interesting. The guy who founded MENSA thought he would find himself surrounded by likeminded individuals. He figured if he had a high IQ and the other members had a high IQ then they would be the best of friends and agree on everything. To his horror he discovered the opposite was in fact the case. The smarter people are the more varied their opinions. Learned people don't all learn the same things or agree on topics. Dumb people tend to agree with each other more because they have a more limited knowledge base upon which to disagree.
Atheists are on average smarter than Theists so they rarely agree on anything. This is why the Secular Party has such a small number of policies. I didn't create this club for hating on religion. That might be my personal preference but I don't tell others what to think. I leave that to religious people.
