Australian Atheists now outnumber religions at 30% but could reach 40% in 2021 census.According to the snowballing trend upwards in citizens declaring themselves atheists in the last few census studies we could see a result in the 40's next census. The last one in 2016 was nearly 8% higher than in 2011 which in turn was 3% higher than the 2006 census. From 2001 to 2006 there was also a 3% increase. As most religious people tend to be quite old and younger people are increasingly non-believers each generation the 5 year gap between census studies could be partly attributable. Internet access and a reduction of religion in schools are also thought to be major factors as students are able to find answers online not censored by religious institutions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irreligion_in_AustraliaIf this trend does continue as predicted we could see atheists in the position of being the majority by 2026 when it is expected they will comprise over 51% of the population. At that point Australia will truly be a Secular Nation.
